Speaker’s Showcase: 6 Q&A with Elena Lalova

Next in line is another great professional and a charming lady as well – Mrs. Elena Lalova. Her talk will cover various aspects of the off-grid concept, showcasing some use cases and success stories from her own experience. So here she is.

Who are you?

I am Elena Lalova, Head of Mini-Grids Division at International Power Supply. Accountable for the execution of the IPS’ marketing and development strategy in the field of mini-grids applications. My key responsibilities are related to the development of market strategies for entering new markets as well as relationship maintenance with existing customers and partners of the company.

Why did you decide to join the speaker’s list of LibertyBits conference?

IPS have been kindly asked to share their knowledge and experience in the off-grid segment. As a representative of a company with nearly 30 years of experience in the R&D and manufacturing of energy conversion system for off-grid electrification worldwide, I am glad to tell you our success stories.

What is your understanding of “liberty” (freedom) and what are the most underestimated threats to our modern society?

Modern energy use is related to the opportunity to make informed choices in the way you consume electricity. Furthermore, we observe the transition from consumer to prosumer (prosumer is someone who both produces and consumes energy) which is related to the renewable and sustainable electricity generation. This transition is related to the “liberty” in the energy sector in the future.

What is the fascinating (the most inspiring) thing about living off-the-grid for you?

A living off-the-grid is the only choice for specific regions in the world since the grid extension in these locations does not make economic sense. Others choose to be off-grid because they are willing to pay the price for being free and choose the source of energy they want to use. The second option is directly related to the fast advancement of energy storage technologies and the increasing price competitiveness of renewables.

What aspects/risks should a person take into consideration to be able to live off-the-grid?

As mentioned already off-grid electrification may not be an option but the only choice for a large population group worldwide. As of 2017, 1.1 billion people leave without access to electricity.

What are your expectations for the conference?

To exchange ideas and knowledge about the alternatives in the off-grid are and to meet with companies, potential clients interested and involved in this market segment. Thank you, Elena! We are looking forward experiencing your talk live at the LibertyBits Conference 2018.
